Noreca was awarded a contract to develop a generic software tool for simulating population viability of Woodland Caribou under Environment Canada’s Woodland Caribou Recovery Strategy. For this Noreca designed and developed a C++-based, stand-alone desktop software that allows Environment Canada staff and local wildlife managers to simulate population dynamics and future population growth for Woodland Caribou populations in Canada. The model can be parameterized with different stochastic population model types. Fecundity and survival rates can be defined for each stage or age class. Simulation results are plotted real time and model output (CSV files) can be imported into other programs for subsequent statistical analysis.
